Fishin’ Bitches 2022

Has cancer changed you? Have you wanted to try things you’ve never done before? A couple weekends ago I got out of my comfort zone and tried some thing I would never have done. I went fly fishing!

It was a weekend filled with fun, new friendships and learning a new hobby. Thanks to Casting For Recovery this program is a free retreat for anyone who is currently going through cancer, or who is in remission. It doesn’t matter how old you are. We got to spend 2 1/2 days with other women and just be us.

We shared cabins, stories, and learned the history of the land we were staying on. All we had to bring was some clothes and our medicine and they provided everything else.

The staff was mainly volunteers or past alumni. They had everything planned out from learning to cast, what types of bugs fish like, medical time where we had an oncologist and therapist to help answer any questions and of course fishing with our own guides. These men and women volunteered their time to be our fishing guides. My guide was awesome - Mark Mickelson is an AZ native and has been fishing since he was 4. He has the background knowledge and really made it fun. He is a local guide and would love to be your fish guide. And to top it off he is also a mortgage broker, how cool was that, that we got teamed up since I’m a Realtor.

We spent about 3 hours fishing at the XDiamond Ranch. Unfortunately I didn’t catch any fish that day but the day before I caught two! You just never know how it’s going to go but it was relaxing and time flew by.

I can’t wait for my next retreat in December with a new group of women and different program in Utah. As I said before cancer can change you. Live life more and enjoy it. I am!
